If you are planning to travel around Azerbaijan in a rented car, you should learn about the peculiarities of local petrol stations in advance. There are good petrol stations and those with questionable quality of fuel. It is certainly not a good idea to refuel at the latter ones.
In Azerbaijan, petrol and diesel prices are lower than in most European countries.

It will be easy for you to refuel in Azerbaijan, even if it’s your first time in the country. Most petrol stations offer self-service fuel pumps, while some large petrol stations have attendants.
The process is standard: drive up to the fuel pump, select the type of fuel, and insert the nozzle into the tank. You can pay either in cash or by bank card.
Most petrol stations accept foreign cards, but we recommend you have some cash in local currency in case your card payment fails.
There are numerous petrol stations on major highways and in cities, and you will have no problem finding them.

The most common chains are SOCAR, Azpetrol, and Lukoil. These companies monitor the quality of the fuel they sell, so you should choose their petrol stations in the first place.
Use caution at petrol stations of small independent companies, especially in remote areas. In rare cases, you may encounter low-quality fuel, which can affect your engine performance. So, if you are travelling through sparsely populated areas, try to refuel in advance to avoid unpleasant surprises.
